How can the inverter and the motor work better together?

麒麟城   Ideally, providing motor nameplate data will help answer this question, but if this data is not available, the following rules will prove useful. If properly applied and meets all expectations, the motor will run on the variable frequency power supply for a long time and will take a long time to work.

   I ask me almost every day, "What effect does the inverter have on my existing motor?"

麒麟城   There are many factors that need to be considered when proposing VFD recommendations. Ideally, providing motor nameplate data will help answer this question, but if this data is not available, the following rules will prove useful. If properly applied and meets all expectations, the motor will run on the variable frequency power supply for a long time and will take a long time to work.


麒麟城   1. If the motor was prior to EPAct (1992), it should only be run on the VFD with careful consideration. The motors built during this time are not for VFD, but if they are VFDs, that's okay. Class F insulation or higher is suitable for VFD use, but VFD may have a constant torque ratio of no more than 2:1. In this case, the existing conditions of the motor insulation system may be the determining factor, and a high pot test is recommended.


麒麟城   2. In most cases, an EPAct motor with a 2:1 constant torque rating and a 4:1 to 10:1 variable torque rating can be run on the VFD. However, it is important to note that many fractions and 56 frame motors are not suitable for VFD. In addition, the performance of the flushing motor (including the motor with stainless steel) is reduced compared to the non-flushing type.


麒麟城   3. NEMA Premium Motors, 4:1 to 20:1 constant torque rating 10:1 to 20:1 Variable torque rating can be run on VFD. Please note that the larger frame motors are rated for 2:1-4:1.


   4. All of the above rules are affected by the length of the motor leads from the VFD to the motor. Usually, the lead length of 100 meters or less should be no problem. Lead lengths greater than 100 meters require reduced bearing current including the use of Aegis SGR grounding rings, output line reactors and dV / dT filters.
